Boat Dock Lights

Boat Dock Lights

One of the many reasons why individuals that own ports are installing outdoor marine Boat Dock Lights or Solar Dock Lights is to simply increase lighting for shipping when they moor their boats, especially during the night when visibility is very low. When docking larger vessels even more care needs to be taken and clear visibility of the water surface and mooring area is essential.

It does not only provide better light quality, but it can also increase the beauty and can help make a marina and floating pontoons to look more appealing and elegant at the same time.  One example of a good quality dock light is the Atlantis Stainless Steel Solar Deck/dock Light; this is one of the most commonly used dock lights today because of its design, durability and price.

There are the main types of Boat Dock Lights today namely: solar dock lamps, glow lights and electric lights. In this article, we will discuss  the advantages and disadvantages each of them offers.

First is the solar-powered light.  As the name implies it is powered by the sun, and you can charge it, even if it is not very sunny. Many people are using this type of light because of the advantages it offers. First, it can help you save electricity, second it is very easy to install and third but not the least is that it is very durable and reasonably priced. Another example of a dock light is the Dock Edge Solar Dock and Deck Light. Solar lights are very good for use on buoys.

The second type is the glow dock light.  They are perfect for underwater use and can make ponds, lakes and the like look more attractive. One great feature of this type is that it is waterproof, and you can charge them even during a cloudy day. Another advantage is that they are actually very easy to install.

Another type of dock light which is not commonly used nowadays is the electric mains dock lights.  They need to be connected to an electricity source to power it.  To cut a long story short -  put it like this, the disadvantages actually outweigh the advantages, and that is the reason why it is not the best option for boaters and dock owners. These lights are not easy to install. You need the help of an electrician or some other professional in this field to help you set up the light safely and for it to function properly.  It would be very helpful and wise to do some research to help you decide which type is the best for your needs. The main docks can be lit this way and obviously all indoor lighting as well, but it becomes less economical the closer to the waterfront you get. Like on a pier or board walk or water ramps.

The mountings and systems for any harbor lights are generally good quality. They tend to have a high quality finish such as galvanized or aluminum or stainless steel, which gives you more protection from the sea water. You can get halogen low voltage bulbs, which give of less heat, and you can get the fluorescent white light ones.

There are many brands of Boat Dock Lights today. Personally, I like the Hi-Lite Vapor Jar 2 Light Boat Dock Exterior Wall Sconce; it is a very durable dock light plus it makes the dock look more elegant, and it is reasonably priced. They look especially good when used as up lighters in decking.
